Our Commitment to Indigenous Students and Community

At Laurimar Primary School, we are proud to foster a deep connection with our Indigenous students and community. Through a partnership with Maloga Art & Culture Workshops, our LPS students are able to celebrate and explore their Indigenous culture and heritage.

As a school we acknowledge the rich history that surrounds us, and have taken steps to make our First Nations culture visible to all students. While we cannot change the past, we strive to help build positive relationships and foster mutual respect for future generations.

The volcanic rock at the front of the school warmly welcomes you and acknowledges the land that our school is situated on.

As our students walk through the school gates, they do this under the protection of Bunjil the Eagle. We honour the traditional custodians by playing alongside the bird totems within our Indigenous Gardens.

Using Data and Engaging in Moderation

We recognise the value of using student data to inform our teaching strategies, allowing us to tailor instruction to the specific needs of each child. By consistently analysing and assessing the data our students provide (using Harvard Data Wise protocols), we are able to make informed decisions that lead to improved learning outcomes and achievements.

Professional Development and Training

Our staff are constantly refining their practice through ongoing professional development and training in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy proficiency, along with student Health and Wellbeing. We understand the importance of staying up to date with the latest teaching methods, pedagogies and techniques, equipping us with the tools to engage and inspire our students.

Providing a Holistic Education

Our dedicated staff members go above and beyond to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that transcends academic excellence.

We believe in a holistic education, providing unique opportunities to connect outside the classroom such as our Camping Program and participation in InterSchool Sports. Our teachers actively participate alongside students in their roles as activity leaders and/or coaches. We foster a sense of fun, whilst encouraging children to try new experiences they may not have yet had the opportunity to experience.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Our school acknowledges the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations as the traditional custodians of the land on which Laurimar Primary School stands. We pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging, and celebrate the stories, culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
