Curriculum
English
At Laurimar Primary School, our English program is rich, engaging and designed to support every student from Prep to Year 6 in becoming confident and capable communicators. Across the year, students develop their skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening through a balance of explicit teaching and creative, purposeful learning experiences.
Our literacy spaces support a range of learning opportunities, where students can immerse themselves in quality texts, collaborate with their peers and express their ideas with clarity and confidence. Through reading, children explore a wide variety of genres, building comprehension skills and a genuine love of literature. In writing, they are encouraged to craft imaginative, informative and persuasive pieces, developing their voice while refining essential skills in grammar, punctuation and structure.
Talk is a vital part of learning at LPS. Students regularly engage in discussions, presentations and group activities that strengthen their ability to listen thoughtfully and communicate effectively with others.
From storytelling to publishing, every child is supported to grow, take risks and celebrate their progress. We are proud to be part of each student’s literacy journey at Laurimar Primary School.
Mathematics
At Laurimar Primary School, our Mathematics program is designed to build confident, capable and curious learners from Prep to Year 6. Through engaging and purposeful learning experiences, students develop strong foundations in number, problem solving and mathematical thinking.
Our classrooms provide supportive and flexible learning environments where students can explore mathematical concepts using hands-on materials, visual models and real-world contexts. Children are encouraged to think deeply, ask questions and explain their reasoning as they work both independently and collaboratively with their peers.
Across the strands of Number, Algebra, Measurement, Geometry and Statistics, students build their skills through a balance of explicit teaching and open-ended investigations. Problem solving is at the heart of our program, with students challenged to apply their knowledge in meaningful and often creative ways.
Maths talk is an important part of learning at LPS. Students regularly share their thinking, justify their strategies and learn from others, helping to strengthen both their understanding and confidence.
From building number fluency to tackling complex challenges, every child is supported to grow, take risks and celebrate their progress. We are proud to be part of each student’s mathematical journey at Laurimar Primary School.
